The world's third largest retailer, Tesco, announced that it had stopped sourcing its supply of clothes from a factory in Bangladesh after it had discovered serious issues with the safety measures conducted on the site.

This move was announced Saturday after a survey done by the supermarket chain based out of Britain after the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory complex located in Dhaka that collapsed last April, killing 1,129 individuals.

According to the statement, "A structural survey of a aite we source from Bangladesh, owned by Liberty Fashions, has revealed serious problems with the safety of one of the buildings."

The owner of Liberty Fashion, Mozammel Huq, which is based in Dhaka, explained to Reuters that the building is located in an industrial zone near the country's capital had complied with existing building codes.

Through a phone interview, Huq told Reuters last Saturday, said "I fully followed the building code, so the question does not arise that it is an unsafe building. The building is almost new - one phase I built only five years ago and the other one eight years ago."
