'Pacific Rim 2' will be pushing through and is currently in the works according to director Guillermo del Toro. He shot down several rumors of his project's cancellation but admitted that production will be delayed although only temporary.

It was only recently that reports of the sequel's cancellation turned up. A report by Slash Film announced that the follow-up for 2013 mainstream hit will be pushed back indefinitely or cancelled altogether. It was revealed that monetary concerns were the unfortunate road block prompting executive to shut down del Toro's project altogether.

However, a new report from Cinema Blend revealed that the 'Crimson Peak' director cleared up the air regarding the fate of 'Pacific Rim 2'. He said, "We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks. As far as I'm concerned, it's not gone. We're still on it." He did admit that there will be some slight delays that could move the planned release date since he was adamant on doing another movie before he could get started on the second installation of the science-fiction monster film.

According to Den of Geek, the sequel was previously announced to start principal photography by November. It was also revealed that del Toro himself was involved in writing the screenplay for the film with the running title 'Pacific Rim: Maelstrom'. Charlie Hunnam may reprise his role as Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket, the first film's main protagonist.

Del Toro is best known for previous work as director, producer or writer in films such as 'The Hobbit', 'Edge of Tomorrow', 'Pan's Labyrinth', 'Hellboy', 'Blade', and 'Rise of the Guardians'. He has received several awards and nominations for exceptional contributions in the industry.

'Pacific Rim 2' is a science-fiction monster action film previously scheduled to be released on August 4, 2017. Its predecessor starred Hunnam, Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori, Max Martini as Herc Hansen, and Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler.  The first film received generally positive feedback from critics and audiences and earned a total of $411 million in the box office.
