'The Sandman' may feature Tom Hiddleston as the lead protagonist Morpheus, otherwise known as Dream of the Endless. It will be a live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's best-selling comic book series. Actor and filmmaker Joseph Gordon-Levitt is busy writing the screenplay for the big-screen.

According to Movie News Guide, 'Thor' actor Tom Hiddleston is considered to play the Lord of Dreams a.k.a. Morpheus. The fictional character is one of the seven powerful deities referred to as Endless and is the personification as well as lord of all dreams. Although his appearance can change, he is usually described as a tall, gaunt, pale man with black hair and stars in place of eyes.

In the comics, Morpheus goes by several aliases including Dream, Oneiros, the Sandman, Kai'ckul, the Dreamweaver, the Shaper, and the Dream King. He possesses absolute control of sleep, dreams, nightmares, and insomnia.  The omnipotent immortal has the ability to shape shift, cast illusions, teleport, warp reality, and summon dreams.

The original 'The Sandman' series created by Neil Gaiman has 75 issues in publication and attempts at adapting them into film and television had been explored for years, according to Slash Film. Jason Gordon-Levitt is attached to direct, produce as well as write the latest big-screen adaptation. The 34-year old actor and filmmaker explained that although there are numerous excellent moments all throughout the series, there will be "re-appropriating, re-contextualizing, combining, consolidating" of material.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gordon-Levitt told MTV during the Spike TV Guys' Choice Awards that the film's development is progressing quite well despite it going on a snail's pace. He said, "It's a really complicated adaptation because those comics, they're brilliant. But they're not written as a whole... To try and take [the entire Sandman series] and make it into something that's a feature film - a movie that has a beginning, middle and end - is complicated."

'The Sandman' is a planned live-action adaptation of the popular 1990's comic book series written by Neil Gaiman and published by Vertigo, a DC Comics imprint. The series' main character is Dream, otherwise called Morpheus, and he is accompanied by other godlike beings including Destiny, Desire, Death, Despair, Delirium and Destruction. The story incorporates elements of dark fantasy, classical and contemporary mythology as well as the occult.
