David Berman was named RingCentral's new president. RingCentral is a cloud communications solutions provider based in San Mateo, California. The company is backed by Khosla Ventures, Cisco, Sequioia Capital, Scale Ventures, and DAG Ventures.

Berman previously served as president and Chief Executive Officer of Affectiva, an emotion-analytics and applications provider. Vlad Shmunis remains as the company's Chief Executive Officer and chairman.

"David brings a wealth of experience in cloud business applications," Shmunis said. "With his depth and breadth of knowledge on expanding into new and existing markets and developing innovative products, David will enable us to take the company to the next level," he added.

When asked about his newest position, Berman said: ""I'm pleased to join RingCentral and help it in its next stage of expansion as it continues to bring world-class, innovative cloud business communication solutions to businesses of all sizes, in a variety of markets,"

Berman developed the Affex SaaS platform used in facial coding through research done at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
