Private investment company Riverstone Holdings LLC announced on Thursday that James T. Hackett is joining the firm as its new partner. Hacket was previously chief executive officer of Anadarko Petroleum Company, an international deepwater producer.

Riverstone co-founders David M. Leuschan and Pierre F. Lapeyre, Jr., confirmed the announcement. "Jim Hackett is among the most knowledgeable and experienced leaders in the global oil and gas industry today," they said. "He helped lead the unconventional energy revolution in North America and has extensive expertise in building upstream companies both onshore and offshore as well as unique experience in global deepwater exploration," they added.

Hackett, in response, said that Riverstone is "one of the most successful and respected private investment firms in the energy industry."

The new partner quit Anadarko last week as part of a succession tradition. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors in the energy production company.

"I look forward to working with its talented professionals, investors, and clients to fulfill the tremendous capital and management needs of the global energy business," Hackett said.
