Indiegogo CEO Slava Rubin is giving away some of the most important tips and tricks on how to successfully raise funds for your particular project.

Indiegogo is a platform that has helped people raise funds for their ideas since it debuted in 2008. It has helped campaign raise as much as half a billion dollars.

Rubin recommends people to feature videos in their campaign explaining their startup and the product. Campaigns with videos raised 114% more money than start-ups that don't.

Next tip is to start with your family and inner circle first. Let them donate and spread the word. This will build momentum. It is also important to give updates every five days.

The media is a great leverage to let more people know about your campaign. Make sure you tell the media about your product early on.

To avoid failures, Rubin recommends people to not focus about the money when pitching the idea. Investors want to learn more about your story and how your product is relevant to them. Listen to the feedback of your customer to gauge market validation.

The range of companies that avails the services of Indiegogo varies largely. Even the 129-year-old Westinghouse resolved to use Indiegogo's services to sell its latest invention, the Nucli smart lock.

Even indie films get crowd funding from Indiegogo. One in particular is the Turbo Kid film, which looks like Mad Max and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World combined. It exceeded its goals in just seven days.

Rubin said Indiegogo continues to evolve as it launched in January the new "inDemand," which allows startups that has raised the funding they need to sell their product in the site. There have been some 4,000 startups that availed the service.
