'The Last of Us' movie may feature Maisie Williams as the main character Ellie. The actor who could portray her adult companion Joel remains unconfirmed.

In an article by Digital Spy, 'Game of Thrones' actress Maisie Williams revealed that she engaged in talks with writer Neil Druckmann and producer Sam Raimi regarding the upcoming live-action adaptation of the multi-award winning video game of the same name.

She said, "The actual film, the making of the film, the script and everything is in very, very early days... It was announced sort of prematurely almost in that I would love to play Ellie, they would love me to play Ellie...There's no film happening at this very second, so I cannot play Ellie right at this very minute. But when that comes around - if and when that comes around - I'll be here."

The young English actress gained worldwide attention for her portrayal of Arya Stark of House Winterfell in the HBO television series 'Game of Thrones'. Her performance as Arya, the fierce tomboyish girl from a noble family, received critical acclaim and garnered several accolades. She is set to star in the 2016 film 'The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea' alongside Jessica Biel and Jason Sudeikis.

 'The Last of Us' movie is set in post-apocalyptic America 20 years after a viral outbreak, according to Screen Rant. Main protagonists Ellie and Joel must fend their way through a devastated world of zombies and aggressive humans taking up firearms and self-defense skills. It was reported by Druckmann that the movie's plot will not stray too far away from the videogame.

According to Empire Online, Raimi's film could feature another big Hollywood A-lister who may star alongside Williams. In the article, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler and Josh Brolin are some of the few who could play the protagonist Joel - a single father who accompanies Ellie through the shattered landscape sprawling with cannibalistic monsters.

 'The Last of Us' movie is an upcoming big-screen adaptation of developer Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed and highly successful horror-adventure videogame. Released worldwide last 2013 for PlayStation 3 and then 2014 for PS4, the game garnered a massive number of awards from several gaming publications. It also became one of the bestselling PS3 games to date.
