SoftBank Corp. wants to name a security director to the board of Sprint Nextel once it becomes successful in its takeover bid.

In its filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on May 1, Sprint said that the new director would be responsible for supervising public safety concerns related to its wireless and wireline operations.

Rival Dish Network Corp has been running a campaign to block the deal, convincing government reviewers and lawmakers that it threatens national security

SoftBank, based in Tokyo, Japan, expects the takeover bid to allow the U.S. government to approve the nominee, a bid to address security concerns from the deal.
