'Thor: Rangarok' may introduce a new God of Thunder as a female Thor. This role is rumored to be taken up by either Natalie Portman's Dr. Jane Foster or Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif. MCU's 'Avenger: Age of Ultron' may also have hinted at events for the Ragnarok plot line in its post-credits scene.

According to Movie News Guide, a new rumor pointed to the introduction of a new version of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was reported that Chris Hemsworth's character may bestow his superhero powers to a new female lead if the comic books' story line were to be followed and brought to the big screen.

Avid fans of the comics would know this female Thor as a character named Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman in the adaptation. It was also hinted that Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif may well be the woman to fill that role since the actress admitted in previous reports that Lady Sif has a bigger part to play in the future of the franchise.

A report by TheBitbag.com seemed to echo these sentiments saying that one of these female characters may inherit Thor's powerful war hammer Mjolnir. 'Thor: Ragnarok' is said to tell the tale of the destruction of the fictional world of Asgard after an ultimate battle between Thor and supervillains speculated to be Ragnarok, Tom Hiddleston's Loki, or the fire demon Sutfur. It follows events after 'Captain America: Civil War' and highlights Thor's visions of the apocalypse in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'. These theories and rumors still remain unconfirmed as of the present.

According to Screen Crush, producer Kevin Feige revealed that the upcoming film will have a very important role for MCU's Phase Three. It was also believed that the post-credits on 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' hinted at the events for 'Ragnarok'.

It is rumored to be the last standalone film for the Prince of Asgard and will signal the rise of new characters. In Marvel's comic books, Loki holds mold where the Mjolnir came from and he proceeds to create evil weapons to use against Thor. He also creates an army that goes into war that breaks the original Mjolnir and destroys Asgard. It was rumored that Thor would die in the process.

'Thor: Ragnarok' is the sequel to 2013's 'Thor: The Dark World' and will be released on November 3, 2017. It is MCU's 17th installment as well as the fifth film in Phase Three. Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost will be writing the screenplay and Kevin Feige is set to return as producer for the upcoming comic book adaptation.
