There is so much anticipation surrounding the "Fear the Walking Dead" premiere, which will drop on the small screen in just a little over a week. The pressure of being compared to "The Walking Dead" is also present but the spinoff star Cliff Curtis says competition is off the table.

"The Walking Dead" is such a huge franchise that even the Curtis, who will star as Travis Manawa, "who is an everyday guy that is passionate about his family" as per the actor's description, Comic Book Resources reported.

Curtis added that his character will have a hard time coping with the "new world" that will rise on "Fear the Walking Dead." "I like the idea of him being a bit of an anti-hero in the sense that he's really not prepared for it and he's not geared up in that way."

He furthered, "You know, he's not like a walking action hero type sort of guy, and so there's room for him to evolve and him to discover who he's going to be in this new world."

In his Entertainment Weekly interview, Curtis also clarified that he is not aiming to compete with the mother show of their new show. According to him, everybody on the show "all the way up through to AMC" are not worried about the spinoff being compared to "The Walking Dead."

"This is a standalone show. That one ["The Walking Dead"] is a juggernaut. We're not going to compete with the juggernaut. We'd be foolish to try and outdo the juggernaut, you know?"

The 47-year-old actor also pointed out that AMC already gambled on pursuing "Better Call Saul," which also came from the very popular "Breaking Bad," but the network did chase after the audience of Walter White to get them to watch Saul Goodman's standalone.

Kim Dickens, who stars as Madison Clark in the series, also echoed her co-star's statement during her interview with Entertainment Tonight.

"They should not worry that it's in any way a dilution of The Walking Dead," Dickens said. "It's just an enhanced picture of what's happening somewhere else. Everyone's deepest fears come to life."

"Fear the Walking Dead" should not be compared to its mother show according to spinoff stars Cliff Curtis and Kim Dickens. The upcoming series airs August 23 on AMC.
