Angelina Jolie has returned to her son Maddox' home country Cambodia. The mother-son duo will film a movie, visit charitable institutions and learn more about the country alongside each other.

Humanitarian Angelina Jolie Pitt made an emotional come back to Cambodia with her son Maddox. Cambodia is a special and significant country for Angelina. It is where she filmed her breakout role in 2001's "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", and adopted her son Maddox who was 7 months old then from an orphanage in 2002.

The Academy Award winning actress is intending to visit and check on her two charitable institutions and together with Maddox, will film a new movie that she is teaming up with Netflix. She will be directing an adaptation of "First they Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers." The film will be based on Loung Ung's memoir of her experiences during the Khmer Rouge regime as a child. It is expected to be available on Netflix in late 2016.

Filming will begin in November, and was revealed that her eldest and Cambodian-born son Maddox will help with research and preparation for the film. He will be on set every day after school and involved behind the scenes.

In an email interview with The Associated Press, Angelina shared: "As Maddox and I prepare the film we will be side by side learning about his country. He is turning 14 next week and this is a very important time for him to understand who he is. He is my son but he is also a son of Cambodia. This is the time for our family to understand all that that means to him and to us. My desire to tell this story in the most truthful and accurate way possible will be my tribute to the strength and dignity of all Cambodian people."

Aside from his job in the film, Maddox is also already working on behalf of the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation and the Maddox Chivan Children's Center, both of which Jolie is hoping will be run one day by her son. Angelina confirmed that he will take over her role when he is older. Angelina launched the foundation in Cambodia 12 years ago to promote community development alongside conservation.

Jolie recently directed the Louis Zamperini biopic "Unbroken" and is in post-production on the drama "By the Sea," in which she also acts alongside her husband, Brad Pitt.
