Martin Freeman has recently discussed his role in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War", revealing his 'ambiguous' character. The internet suggests that the "Sherlock" star might be portraying Marvel's Henry Peter Gyrich or Everette Ross. Which character suits Martin Freeman's description? The third installment of the superhero franchise is slated to open in cinemas May next year.

Martin Freeman's role in the forthcoming "Captain America: Civil War" is one of the film's better kept secrets ever since it was announced. The fans definitely know that the "Sherlock" actor is on board, but in what capacity remains to be kept under the wraps. However, we may finally be nearing to an answer as he dropped a few hints about his undisclosed role in the upcoming Marvel film.

In an interview with the Italian website BadTaste, the 43-year-old actor revealed that his character in the movie works for the American government. "He works in conjunction with the superheroes, and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes' power, I suppose," he said. "So you're not quite sure which side he's on." Interestingly, he described his character as "ambiguous", someone the fans would not be able to quickly determine whether he's good or bad. "It looks a little bit like he's playing one game when actually he's playing another", he added.

While Freeman's character in the upcoming "Captain America" film could possibly be a newly invented one, there is one character in the footnotes of Marvel history that fits the details he revealed. HitFlix predicts that if he is portraying a familiar face, he could play Henry Peter Gyrich.  According to the outlet, Grych is known to be a part of the Commission of Superhuman Activities (CSA), a government agency devoted to keeping the Avengers accountable for their actions.

Kevin Feige has already revealed that the MCU version of the Superhuman Registration Act (a legislative bill from the comics) will not focus on revealing the identities of the superheroes but will deal on "government oversight" instead. Considering that the said matter is what Henry Gyrich does best in the comics, the role indeed suits Freeman's description of his character.

Slashfilm also suggests the role of Everett Ross, a U.S. government agent who is an expert on the nation of Wakanda. If this is the character Freeman will be portraying in the movie, he will likely appear in Chadwick Boseman's solo superhero film "Black Panther". And for what it's worth, the actor has already indicated that he might return for other Marvel installments after his appearance in "Captain America: Civil War".

Meanwhile, the third installment of 'Captain America' series follows Captain America's (Chris Evans) conflict with Iron Man Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) over whether there should be governmental control of superheroes.

"Captain America: Civil War" is slated to premiere May 6 next year.
