In an announcement, Gladstone Land Corporation has acquired a farm with a land area of 119 total acres where 89 is arable land. There is water available on the land and is currently being utilized for blueberries. The farm is located in Van Buren County, near Covert, Michigan.

With the acquisition, the firm also leased the property to a corporate farmer who has operations in farmlands located in Florida, Georgia and Michigan.

According to Bill Frisbie, Principal for Gladstone Land Corporation, "This is the first of many farmland acquisitions we expect in Michigan and is part of our strategy of geographic diversification across the United States. We now have 1,750 acres of land leased, containing 1,443 acres of farmable land. Our thirteen properties are farmed for a variety of crops, including strawberries, lettuce, cabbage, radicchio, cantaloupes, watermelons, okra, peas, grape tomatoes, raspberries and blueberries. As we continue to diversify into properties across multiple crop types, we are reducing the overall risk of our portfolio."
