Although no exact date has been confirmed yet, "Avatar" 2 will definitely be something to watch out for during the Christmas holidays in 2017. Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, who play protagonists and antagonists respectively but were killed in Avatar", will still be seen in the movie's sequel.

International Business Times reports that 20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos sees a Christmas release as the perfect premiere schedule for Avatar 2. December 25 may be the date to be set for the said debut while Avatar 3 and 4 may have the same exact dates in 2018 and 2019 respectively. In fact, the script for all three sequels are already done and pre-production is underway.

It has been earlier reported that one of the reasons why it will take eight years before the prequel to "Avatar" will be followed is that the filming for the rest of the three instalments was done on a one time basis. This explains why the movies will be offered year after year starting 2017. Sets, creatures and other characters are currently being designed for all three sequels. Another reason for the delay is that Director James Cameron is creating an underwater technology which is reported to be used in Jake Sully and his clan's deep underwater action scenes as part of their exploration of the Pandora Ocean.

Master Herald adds that all the pieces are already in place and what is challenging the crew of Avatar is the filming of all three sequels on a tight schedule. There is also the challenge of what will be put in which sequel so as to complete the whole puzzle together.

According to another report of International Business Times, Sam Worthington, Zoe Zaldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will all reprise their roles. It can be remembered that Weaver and Lang's character were already killed in the first movie.

Avatar 2 will be a continuation of the prequel and will focus on the lives of Jake (Worthington) and (Zaldana) and their explorations.
