Dubai's flagship carrier Emirates and Australia's Qantas Airways ltd. plans to widen their partnership by including ground services and catering after announcing their alliance.

The alliance of the two carriers, which received a final sign-off from the competition regulators of Australia, has been criticized by rivals who think they are too broad and taking advantage of the dominance of Qantas in the Australian domestic market.

Under the deal, Qantas will be transferring its hub from Singapore to Dubai for European flights, which would cut loss-making international routes. The shift of hub will also allow the Australian airline to center its attention on its profitable budget and domestic operations.

Qantas announced that it agreed to have partnership with Emirates in Septembers, marking the end of its alliance with IAG's British Airways that reached 17 years.
