The venerated inventors of Blackberry Mike Lazaridis and Doug Fregin are again in partnership to set up a fund that would foster the growth, development and commercialization of quantum science technologies. Quantum science is said to be the next wave of computing technologies.

Lazaridis is well known for his passion for physics, recently stepped down as co-CEO of Blackberry. He then helped establish the Quantum-Nano Center, a research facility to help in the promotion of discoveries in emergent technologies related to quantum computing. He envisioned the Waterloo, CA center as the hub of quantum technologies.

In a statement, Lazaridis said, "Nothing you see in the classical technology world can prepare you for what you will see in the quantum technology revolution. Our belief in the power of quantum physics to transform society inspired us to develop a strategy some 12 years ago that led to the world-clas quantum research capability that exists."
