The much awaited 'Tron 3' is not happening. According to Disney, the third installment of the 'Tron' franchise never got its greenlight and will never proceed the shooting for the film. Disney explained that their slate is full of upcoming movies, so they do not know when they would release 'Tron 3.'

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that 'Legacy' stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund would reprise their role but unfortunately it was cancelled by Disney. "Things in the queue got ahead of it and we have such a big slate out in front of it, we started to think, 'Where does it go?' And it's a pretty big investment to make if you are not even sure when you are going to release it," a Disney executive said.

In the years to come, Disney will release a number of films like Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book, Dumbo, and Pete's Dragon. Currently filming now is a new Pirates of the Caribbean installment, and Alice in Wonderland will also get a sequel.

Disney's 'Tomorrowland' did not meet the expected box-office opening. With only $33 million US debut, its opening was not even as high as 'Pitch Perfect 2.' May be Disney was disappointed by 'Tomorrowland and 'The Lone Ranger's' performance at hitting the box-office that's why they cancelled 'Tron 3.

'Tron 3' was supposed to shoot this coming fall in Vancouver, British Columbia but will not happen anymore. It was also rumored that Disney wants Jared Leto to be part of the cast, but no negotiations happened. Now that the movie was pulled off, Daft Punk will not provide the musical score anymore like what he did on the 'Tron: Legacy.'

In 1982 Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner starred in a sci-fi film, in which the Disney developed the 'Tron: Legacy' sequel. Then in 2010, the 'Tron: Legacy' was released that hit $400 million in the box-office.

Though 'Tron 3' was cancelled, it was not permanently removed off the Disney's dock of soon-to-be-shot movies.
