Simply a disservice. Ghostbusters without New York City is a huge disservice to the ghost-fighting franchise. We've run into reports and speculations - including ours - of a New York-less iteration of the spooky film and all that talk are baseless and would not stick if thrown to the wall. Downright fabricated!

No, we're not taking the word of just any Tom, Dick or Harry. The director himself, the one director that Columbia Pictures had pined for, Mr. Paul Feig, has put an end to the rumors.

Yes, they're doing Boston but it will not be at the expense of New York, the very city where the original 1984 American comedy film was shot.

In a recent up-close-and-personal interview with Director Feig, IGN News reveal that the Spy director played with the idea but decided you really can't have a Ghostbuster film without putting New York City right at the very heart of it.

In his own words:

Oh no, it takes place in New York," Feig confirmed. "We're just shooting mostly in Boston. The original Ghostbusters shot mostly in LA and then they went to New York and shot some exteriors, so that's basically what we'll be doing too. It just comes down to money and our budget is so high that we need the tax incentive that Massachusetts provides."

Of course, given financial considerations the Spy director toyed with the idea saying:

"Oh yeah, you can't take the Ghostbusters out of New York. I had moments where I was thought, 'Well we're shooting in Boston, why not?' But that just felt wrong to me. Some of the fans are mad at me about doing a reboot and even I would be mad at myself if I pulled it out of New York."

So that settles it then, folks.

The next up-and-coming, Ghostbuster flick, Ghostbuster Reboot may work fine deploying feminine protagonists played by a slew of Hollywood's most talented: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, but it won't get away without New York - considered by many as the fifth ghostbuster.

Yes, please. Take away the ghosts in any city in America. Do as you wish but for Pete's sake, it's taboo to take away Ghostbusters out of New York City.
