The famous 1958 American horror/science fiction film 'The Blob' is set to undergo a modern spin once again. This time, moviegoers are in for a more sci-fi take, going deeper into the mystery of where the gelatinous mass came from.

Sadly, rocker-turned-director Rob Zombie drops out of the project for another upcoming movie, 'The Lords of Salem'. Apparently, Zombie is tired of having to hear his remake films compared to the original. He said in an interview "I wanted to break away from anything related to preexisting material. The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different."

It's not first for this Irvin Yeaworth cult-classic to be re-imagined - The Blob remakes were released 1972 and 1988. It was last year when Rob Zombie announced that he will be the one to direct the popular monster-tale. So, who's filling up his shoes?

It's been confirmed that Simon West will replace Zombie, who is known for top-grossing films such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Con Air, and The Expendables 2. West revealed in an interview that his version will be closer to the original film, referring to the blob as 'a thing that comes from another planet'.

Another addition to West's film is Samuel L. Jackson - whom we recently saw on the big screen together with the Avengers, fighting Ultron. He will play a biochemistry professor that will help save the human race from the alien invader. This is a busy year for Jackson, who is also set to play a role in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming murder movie.

Zombie may be out of the picture, but Simon West is definitely a great catch for The Blob, considering that most of his movies were action-packed and tasted box office successes. The remake will start shooting this fall.
