Sergio Marchionne, concurrent CEO of Fiat and Chrylser Group LLC, said that he is determining whether the next step forward would be Chrysler going public or the carmaker would be merged with Fiat. Fiat is one of the shareholders in the smallest US carmaker together with a retired trust fund and the United Auto Workers union.

His preference though is Fiat merging with Chrysler, with Marchionne saying, "My preference is to be one single company.  We belong together."

In the past four years, the two automakers have worked together as Fiat's interest in Chrysler has increased during the same period. The problem though is the conflict between Fiat and the trust fund as to the true worth of the company. This is because the trust fund wants to extend value because it was to pay for medical benefits of its members.

As of the moment, Chrysler and Fiat remain two separate entities with a bright future with Marchionne at the helm.
