Sony Xperia Z4 is Sony's most powerful bid to gain a huge upper hand in a smartphone market lionized by Apple and Samsung. As early as 2015 Mobile World Congress  March 2 in Barcelona, Spain, the smartphone's details were revealed to the public unveiled by the corporate giant's executives. - and now considerably open for scrutiny. From the looks of it, however, it will not be the 5.2-inch screen smartphone that's going to hit the market globally but its smaller brother, the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact.

In a recent report,  a Russian website cited that Sony Xperia Z4 Compact is bound to be launched Wednesday, May 13. Further, the report revealed that said product will boast of similar specs to the Sony Xperia Z4 - except for its largely diminutive size.

In a larger scheme of things, this could be a strategic move by the Japanese tech titan as a smaller Z4 could bid better sales. Quite naturally, not only will the Z4 Compact give a better handle because of its smaller body, it will don what could prove its biggest marketing come-on: a lesser price tag.

Adding more fuel to the rumor mill, the Sony Xperia Z4's model number was recently spotted listed on the website of NTT Docomo - one of Japan's biggest carrier. That should be telling.

In hindsight, Sony has been following a similar pattern before. Sony Xperia Z3 had its smaller counterpart, Xperia Z3 Compact.

However, please note that at this stage in time, everything is still speculation. Sony is yet to make an official announcement on the perceived upcoming event.

As we speak, Sony Xperia Z4 is but a bunch of specs and numbers to most everybody in the Western world. Yes, the Japanese tech titan who made a killing in its hugely-popular PlayStation series has unveiled the Z4 product but for reasons unknown has decided not to sell any smartphone bearing the name this side of the world.

The closest thing to anybody experiencing the Z4 is in Sony's website where the smartphone is on display. In this area, the Japanese giant has given European fans an edge: They can order the product online. Pre-order, yes. Product's still on hold.

For a brief comparison, here's how the two products play against its other:

• Similar System-on-chip used: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8
• Similar Operating system: Android 5.0 Lollipop
• Similar Memory: 3 GB
• Different Sizes: 5.2-inch Z4 vs 4.5/4.7-inch Compact

And more likely than not, the smaller Sony Xperia Z4 Compact could have a watered down version of the 2930mAh battery of the Z4. Still it is expected that both the Sony Xperia Z4 and Sony Xperia Z4 Compact appear within 2015.
