New CIO of Vanguard Group Chooses Appointees

The new head of Equity Index Group is Joseph Brennan and included in his job description is looking after more than eighty different international and US index funds as well as exchange traded funds amounting to about US$1 trillion in assets. His appointment was made by the Vanguard Group Inc, and he returns to the US after being CIO of the fund company's Asia Pacific regional headquarters based out of Australia.

Other key positions were filled by the Vanguard Group and the selection committee was headed by the fund's Chief Investment Officer Tim Buckley. Buckley replaced long time Vanguard CIO Gus Sauter who recently retired.

Vanguard is the largest American mutual fund company with about US$2.1 trillion in mutual fund assets and a key area of growth is its equity index funds portfolio. Aside from Buckley, Vanguard's Bond Group would now be lead by company old hand Josh Barrickman and its Active Equity Group would be supervised by John Ameriks, another Vanguard long time employee.
