Blue Bloods Season 6 is a likelihood as the previous season's ratings prove the show is a hit. The Season 5 finale posted a 10 percent viewership gain in its ratings, sweeping the time period against such fan favourites as Amazing Race and Hawaii Five-0.

Blue Bloods ended its 5th season on May 1 as "Friday's most watched program with its largest audience since March 13 and highest rated in key demographics since April 3," according to TV By the Numbers.

This high ratings of the CBS procedural crime drama series should seal the deal for the renewal of the show onto the next season if the network decides based on ratings. TV Series Finale notes "the ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival."

The Finale of Blue Bloods Season 5 which led the ratings in the 10pm slot was the conclusion of the two-part season ender. In "The Art of War" recap, Danny tried to keep his outrage in check as he tracked down the gang member responsible for shooting a member of the Reagan clan. Linda makes it through the episode. Danny secures justice by creatively engaging gang members to trap Mario Hunt. The stereotype of violent vindictive cops did not taint Danny, scoring "a win for the character and also a win for standing up for what is right" according to CarterMatt's review.

Hollywood Hills has also reported "Blue Bloods" averaging 9 to 11 million viewers in Season 5 making it the most watched show on Friday nights,

However, CBS Television has remained mum on the fate of the Tom Selleck-starrer. CBS in fact did not give its usual block announcement in March of shows to be renewed. The silence of the television network has fuelled speculations of a possible cancellation of the series.

CarterMatt has warned against a cancellation in favour of a younger cast of characters on Friday nights as an unwelcome message to older viewers of the show.

The storyline of Blue Bloods revolves around the Irish-American Reagan family and their work as part of the New York Police Department. The series stars Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Monahan, Len Cariou, Will Estes, Sami Gayle, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray.

The Blue Bloods Season 6 renewal or cancellation is expected to be announced in a week or two.
