Xiaomi Yi is a GoPro Hero similar product from the popular Chinese manufacturer priced at half the cost of its leading competion. Aside from the price, Yi action camera have more surprises in store.

For only $64 anyone can shoot a sports clip using the Yi action camera. Compared to a Go Pro Hero which retails at $130, Yi is 50% cheaper as per price estimates based on its availability in China. Xiaomi isnt directly importing the unit to the US yet however, an independint company, GearBest offers the unit for $93.99 (the price in the site changes from time to time). When the manufacturer starts importing the Yi camera directly, prices could significantly drop. Aside from the price, its specs is another interesting attribute of this new comer.

Yi's features include a 16 Megapixel camera while GoPro Hero has 5 Megapixel. It records 1080pixels/60 frames per second compared to GoPro's 1080pixels/30 frames per second. Instead of a rumored 64GB storage, Yi is able to accommodate 128GB SD cards. It also has an impressive maximum of 7 bursts per second, WIFI enabled which GoPro isn't, 40 meters waterproof capable through a separate case, and a replaceable battery. This isn't the first time Xiaomi has produced gadgets with impressive features in very low in prices.

An earlier report this year revealed that Xiaomi has topped Samsung as China's leading smartphone vendor in 2014. According to the statement, the China based company's success was attributed to its low prices and online flash sales. Just like the Yi action camera, Xiaomi has produced numerous smartphones with the similar high features and low price edge over its competitors.

Xiaomi is gaining popularity as a producer of impressive electronic products in the lowest prices. Their recent Xiaomi Yi action camera now contends its well known counterpart GoPro. Is Xiaomi raising the bar of the tech products' features and prices?
