The Vampire Diaries Season 6 storyline is being challenged by the recent announcement of actress Nina Dobrev that she is leaving the series and will no longer play the lead character, Elena Gilbert.

Just how exactly the Elena character leaves the show, is the subject of speculations of fans and reviewers. Will Mystic Falls' main couple Damon and Elena both take the vampirism cure to live out their lives as humans? But then how will Damon live out his humanity without Elena by his side?

In next week's "I'd Leave My Happy Home For You" episode synopsis the offer to be human again has Elena going to a friend for advice and getting more confused.

The CW teases "as Alaric (Matt Davis) and Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) reluctantly participate in their bachelor and bachelorette parties, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) discuss the ramifications from an impulsive offer that Damon makes. Unsure of what to do, Elena turns to Bonnie (Kat Graham) and jo for advice, but is left conflicted when Bonnie raises some unanticipated concerns.

The "unanticipated concerns" are apparently about whether Elena can love a human Damon.

The season wrap up for the other Mystic Falls characters were also teased, "When Enzo (Michael Malarkey) realizes Lily (guest star Annie Wersching) is on a dangerous downward spiral, he asks Stefan (Paul Wesley) to help intervene before it's too late. Lastly, fed up with the supernatural threats that plague their town, Matt (Zach Roerig) takes his instructions out on Tyler (Michael Trevino), while Alaric considers a life-changing piece of advice."

Meanwhile as the television drama unfolds, the off-screen events in the lives of Somerhalder and Dobrev also unfold with the former real-life couple battling rumors of the "real reason" Dobrev is leaving the show. Somerhalder has just married Dobrev's former confidante Nikki Reed the rumor mill is ripe with more theories.

One thing is for sure though, a definitive end for the season is what the show needs to have fans return for the next season even without Elena, and the Damon-Elena love angle.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 on The CW.
