By now, iPod Touch 6th Gen would have created quite a stir in various Apple communities all over the world. However, even with its impending launch this 2015 and even when many have made the device as their mobile device of choice, it's becoming obviously clear that the iPod is but playing second fiddle to the Apple's biggest money-making machinery: iPhone. Introducing such a 2nd-tier product at the right time could therefore be largely an exercise of fine marketing skills.

This is perhaps the reason why no definite date has been pegged by the Cupertino-based company for the release of the iPod Touch 6 to the market, though September appears to be the most logical.

Two and a Half Years Wait

Looking at the dropping sales of the iPod, it's easy to see why until today there has been no new iteration for the product.

To note, iPhone 5th Gen is getting old - being in the market for over two and a half years.

In the early days, iPod drew more customers than the iPhone as Statista would show though many may not believe it possible today. In 2007, for instance, over 10.2 million iPods were sold in comparison to about a million sales for the iPhone.

But iPod sales has been on a constant freefall, crawling to but 2.64 million last quarter of 2014 while iPhone sales has skyrocketed to almost 40 million.

Last year was iPhone's best performance ever gaining Apple its highest profits since the company's inception.

Timing is Everything

In the past six months, there have been three Apple Events but none carrying the iPod, notes Stabley Times.

That should only serve to increase the chances of a new iPod iteration being launched this year. However, Apple could be facing a marketing dilemma of sorts.

If it decides to launch the iPod Touch 6th Gen, Apple may not be able to hold a separate Media Event dedicated solely for the up-and-coming iPod iteration and would have to make do with a bare-bones launching via a press release.

Of course, though unlikely, that is possible and most die-hard iPod users would welcome the event even without much fanfare.

But a deeper issue sprouts. If the Tim Cook-led tech giant launches the iPod 6th Gen now, it may have to do so without all the amazing iPhone 6S-era specs that will be available by fall.

And would have to do with an iPhone 6-era specs that are already half-a-year old.

Saddling the latest iPod iteration with iPhone 6S technology could be Apple's best move, given iPod's launch dates that are growing more and more distant each time.

Apple's next iPod is bound to be spectacular. Among its notable features: water-resistant, an improved Siri, a powerful A9 microprocessor, new iOS 9 which includes Touch ID, according to Master Herald.

Coming in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions, the iPod Touch 6th Gen prices start at $250.
