The Incredibles fans rejoice! The long-awaited sequel to one of Pixar's most beloved films is finally getting an official sequel. The news was confirmed by Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the original The Incredibles movie. According to Bird, he's already hard at work on the script for the upcoming Pixar sequel. "I'm just starting to write it, so we'll see what happens," Bird revealed in The Independent. 

If Bird is just starting to write the film, presumably he has an idea of who the villain might be for the second Incredibles adventure. And there's one villain who makes the most sense- the Underminer, the underground-dwelling villain first teased at the end of the original movie. The Underminer, as voiced by John Ratzenberger, has one very obvious claim to the title of villain for The Incredibles 2. As explained by About, Ratzenberger voices a role in every single Pixar movie. Obviously, he'd have to return to The Incredibles 2 as The Underminer, making him a perfect choice for villain.

One of the other major updates to The Incredibles is obviously going to be the age of the Parr children. Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack will all have aged significantly from when we last saw them in The Incredibles, and not only will the characters have to be redesigned, they'll likely have to be voiced by different actors. There's no word yet from Pixar on who might be playing these updated roles.

As well, director Brad Bird recently spoke to Little White Lies about his love for the Incredibles characters and how happy he is to be rejoining the franchise.

"It can be fun, and certainly I had a blast getting to do the action sequences in The Incredibles, but that's the dessert. Every movie is kind of a risk, and you're thrown into a new pool and you haven't learned how to swim in it yet, so I'm going to bumble along and make the same mistakes that I usually do and hopefully spot them and correct them. I really love those characters and that aspect of getting to be with them again is exciting to me."

The release date is not yet known for The Incredibles 2, but it's expected to premiere in either 2017 or 2018.
