The new Gear VR that Samsung has released for the Galaxy S6 is lighter and sharper in display, along with other new neat features.

The new Samsung Gear VR for the Galaxy S6 is smaller by about 15 percent than that for the Note 4. That change will not immediately be seen until one wears it and discover how lighter it feels than the original. This is due to two factors: One is the Galaxy S6 is smaller than the Note 4; and the second is, the redistribution of the device weight. It also feels more comfortable now with the addition of more padding on the rear strap.

The improved display sharpness is also notable, which is mainly attributable to the Galaxy S6's quality display. The S6 has 577 ppi while the Note 4 has 518. Both come with the same resolution. In addition to sharper display, this also helps reduce a screen door effect.

The tradeoff is there's smaller field of view for this new Gear VR than before. A reviewer from Tech Radar also recommends it as excellent for watching videos, though the quality is still slightly fuzzy. The new Samsung Gear VR also makes gaming cool but not completely engaging. Being able to watch a volcano or look down at the canyon is a visual treat, said the reviewer. This, combined with the Bluetooth gaming controller, should give developers the reason to highly consider this device.

Other features that come with the new Gear VR that weren't found in the previous models include the focus ring adjustment that provides greater focusing range and the mechanical fan to keep the device from overheating and preventing the lens from fogging up. The shield cover which the original model had is now removed in the new model.

Like other VR devices out there, Samsung's Gear VR for the Galaxy S6 is far from perfect. But considering the device's overall use, it can be considered as a good home entertainment device especially if it will be less chunkier in size.
