Even after decades, Elvis Presley proves his stand as King as everyone prepares for what would have been his 80th birthday this January 8. This year proves to be a little extra special for fans of the rock and roll legend, however, with some of his most treasured possessions being put on auction.
First announced was the sale of Elvis' two private jets, "Lisa Marie" and "Hound Dog II". The two jets, which Presley originally purchased in 1975, have been on display at Graceland for more than 30 years. According to Inquistr.com, the planes are currently privately auctioned by Julien's Auctions. The bidding will close in February 2 with the two jets expected to be sold by over $10 million.
A new memorabilia of the King has also been recently announced for auction. This time, fans can have a chance to get their hands on Elvis first ever recording.
The recording supposedly features Presley performing his song "My Happiness" which she recorded when he was only 18. According to CBC, Presley recorded the song for her mother and stopped by his friend Ed Leek's house to listen to it. He left the RPM record there since his family does not have a player during that time.
The acetate recording has remained with the Leeks family for decades but is still intact and playable. It will be auctioned Thursday on his birthday together with other of his memorabilia at Graceland in Memphis.
Aside from these, the Rolling Stone also reports of a remastered digital version of the King's 1960 and 1965 hits on iTunes. Titled "The Complete '60s Albums Collection Vol. 1", the collection will include tracks like "G.I. Blues", "Blue Hawaii", and "Girl Happy".
A new website dedicated to Presley called "ElvisTheMusic.com" will also go live on his birthday. The website will include a comprehensive database on everything and anything about the King.
