Big winners EXO and Taeyang bring home the highest honors in MAMA 2014; SISTAR beats 2NE1 and Girls’ Generation for Best Female Group award

Idol group EXO and Big Bang member Taeyang were hailed big winners at the recently concluded 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards aka MAMA 2014 held in Hong Kong's AWE on December 3.

SM Entertainment's megagroup EXO won the top honors, receiving the Album of the Year award for "Overdose." This is their second year to receive the same award, according to Soompi. The idol group also won another major award, Artist of the Year in Asia, as well as Best Asian Style and Best Male Group.

Taeyang, meanwhile, won Song of the Year award for his phenomenal "Eyes, Nose, Lips," as well as Best Vocal Performance Male for the same song and Best Male Artist.

KpopStars reported other winners in the recently concluded music award show. Idol group INFINITE won Best Dance Performance Male Group for "Last Romeo" besting EXO, TVXQ, BTS, and VIXX. They also received the K-Pop Fan Choice Award Male.

For the female category of Best Dance Performance, Girl's Day won the award for "Something." AOA, missA, SISTAR, and 4minute were nominated in the award, as well.

Girls' Generation subgroup TaeTiSeo took home the K-Pop Fan Choice Award Female. The award was accepted by member Tiffany in behalf of the members. In her thank you speech, Tiffany thanked their fans who continued to support the group despite recent departure of member Jessica Jung.

Epik High received the Best Rap Performance award for "Happen Ending," while 2PM won Best Music Video award for "Go Crazy."

Solo artist, IU, also emerged as big winner, winning the Most Popular Vocalist award. She also won Best Female Artist award.

Meanwhile, Best Female Group award was given to SISTAR, besting other established groups including YG Entertainment's 2NE1 and SM Entertainment's Girls' Generation.

YG Entertainment's rookie group, WINNER, won the award for the Best New Artist category where idol group GOT7, sibling duo Akdong musician, and singers Park Boram and Eddy Kim were also nominated.

Moreover, the award for Best Dance Performance Solo went to Sunmi for "Full Moon," while diva Ailee won Best Vocal Performance for "Singing Got Better."

The Best Band Performance award was given to CNBLUE for "Can't Stop," while Best OST was awarded to Lyn for "My Destiny," which was used in the hit drama "You Who Came From The Stars."

Meanwhile, MAMA's guest this year, John Legend, was given the International Favorite Artist award.
