Instagram announced on its official blog last August the release of Hyperlapse, a new app that allows users to take high-quality time lapse videos. The new app is currently available only on iOS devices. Nonetheless, not many users understand what the feature offers. Here is quick guide on how to take advantage of the function.

Hyperlapse Features

Instagram says they designed Hyperlapse to be simple. The standalone app features one-click recording, 1-12x playback speed choices, and easy sharing on Instagram. It also features a built-in stabilization technology that allows users to take time lapse videos in motion. The examples that Instagram posted in their blog showed this clearly, with one taken from a roller coaster, and another taken from a train, and so on. The quality of videos produced by the app is said to rival those produced by professional equipment.

"From documenting your whole commute in seconds or the preparation of your dinner from start to finish to capturing an entire sunset as it unfolds, we're thrilled about the creative possibilities Hyperlapse unlocks," Instagram said in their official blog.

Highly-Anticipated Time Lapse App

The buzz around Hyperlapse has built up over the past few weeks as its features were reviewed by different blogs and news outlets. For instance, Marketing Land's comment about Hyperlapse is that "Instagram is about to get more cinematic," while Venure Beat says that because of Hyperlapse,  Instagram videos "just got more interesting." Marketing Land further reported that within the first two hours of the app's release, the hashtag #hyperlapse was already building up on Instagram.

It is important to note that Hyerlapse isn't the first time lapse app to be made available on mobile. Several apps are already available to users, but as the official Instagram timelapse app, compatibility of the videos produced won't be an issue. Videos created on Hyperlapse can be shared on both Facebook and Instagram right after recording.

Not Yet Available on Android Devices

Android users will have to wait for further announcements regarding availability on Google Play. Facebook's Instagram sector has not commented on whether an Android version will be released at the time of writing, but according to a report on Venture Beat, Facebook has already expressed plans on an Android launch. If the report is true, users will still have to wait for a release date.
