George Clooney going back to television? And on "Downton Abbey"?

Multiple reports have said that the "ER" alum will guest-star in a "Downton Abbey" sketch for ITV network's charity initiative for the holidays, "Text Santa," E! News said. The scene will reportedly be set in Highclere castle, the very location of the hit British drama series.

On the other hand, it has been made clear that Clooney will not be appearing on the actual show once it returns for Season 5 or its Christmas special. E! News said that Clooney will be appearing for a standalone film to support the initiative.

Clooney's involvement in the film is seen because of his friendship with actor Hugh Bonneville, who plays the Earl of Grantham Lord Robert Crawley in the series. BBC News said that the actor struck a friendship with Clooney when they worked together in "The Monuments Men."

When Clooney was asked by British publication's The Sun about his potential appearance at the show, he dismissed the idea of joining the series. He told the site, "I am too lowly for a part, I don't think they want me. I can't do the accent either. It's all very Dick Van Dyke."

The Guardian reported that the Hollywood superstar and director has already filmed scenes for his part in the sketch. However, a spokesperson for "Downton Abbey" refused to provide details about the sketch. But it has been learned that Clooney would be appearing with Bonneville and Michelle Dockery in the sketch.

The Sun also quoted sources familiar with the situation who have said, "All the plans have been shrouded in secrecy because George was determined for his role not to leak out. All the other cast members and crew were also sworn to secrecy. It's amazing it's taken four months for someone to find out. This is the biggest moment in Downton history and shows it's now the biggest drama in the world."

"Downton Abbey: Season 5" would be back on September 21.
