Superheroes are fictional characters we emulate and idolize for their strengths and extraordinary skills. Whether in the comic book or in the big screen, we always cannot help but be amazed with their super powered beings. We all grew up having our favorite super hero. In the world of comic books, Marvel is regarded as the Big Two. Its line-up of super heroes has received huge following over the years.

Whether you are a kid starting school or an adult with a family of your own, super heroes have always been a part of our lives. In this article, we will take a look at Top 10 Marvel Super Heroes according to About.com.

1. Spiderman

Without a doubt, the web slinging Spiderman is easily one of the most popular Marvel superhero. He has appeared in video games, TV series, comic books, and in the big screen. Spidey, as he is fondly called, has also made an appearance in the float of Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade. As Peter Parker, he is just a normal kid trying to niche his name in society. But once he unveils his superhero alter ego, he is always there to save someone in need.

2. Wolverine

Starting out as part of the X-Men, Wolverine has achieved a huge popularity on his own. Marvel even used him to increase the sales of other comic book series. Every comic book reader surely knows the dark past that Logan is hiding but even then he emerged as one of the most liked characters. He has made it big not only in comic books but also in the movies.

3. The Incredible Hulk

"Don't make him angry. You won't like him when he's angry."  So goes the familiar line that every Hulk fanatic has become accustomed with. Hiding inside this big green monster is brilliant scientist Bruce Banner, who found himself trapped in gamma radiation transforming him into The Hulk. Banner's brilliant memory and intelligence is replaced by massive strength when he is transformed into the character of the Incredible Hulk.

4. Captain America

The true American super hero, Captain America has quickly gained popularity in both comic book and movies. He truly defines what being a super hero is: standing up for those who cannot stand on their own, upholding justice, and overcoming huge odds despite his limited powers.  As Steve Rogers, this Avenger was a World War II veteran. Injected with a "Super Serum," he is instantly transformed into a frail human being into someone with greatly enhanced muscles and reflexes.

5. Iron Man

From being a second stringer character in the Marvel world, Iron Man gained popularity thanks to motion pictures. After his parents were killed in a car accident, Tony Stark instantly inherited Stark Industries. As Iron Man, Stark possesses a heart of steel and transforms into a modern-day knight in a high tech armor.

6. Thor

His rise to popularity boosted by two movies, Thor is recognized as one of the first Avengers. The first son of Asgard, this Norse god was transformed into a mortal because of his impetuous acts. But it was in the world of men, that he learned how to be a hero. With his godly state restored, Thor uses one of the greatest weapons, the enchanted Mjolnir, in saving not only his world but also his second home Earth.

7. Daredevil

The Man Without Fear, blind lawyer by day and protector of Hell's Kitchen by night, Matt Murdoch becomes the Daredevil who protects his neighborhood with his keen senses. Played by actor Ben Affleck in the movies, Daredevil battles a network of villains which include The Kingpin, Mister Fear, Still Man, to name just a few. He has also fought alongside other super heroes such as Black Widow and Elektra.

8. Punisher

The Punisher is a super hero like no other. He took the dark path but remained endeared to comic book lovers. From his monicker, he punished criminals using his skills and modern-day weapons. Recently played by Dolph Lundgren, The Punished has turned the world of comics into a whole new dimension.

9. Silver Surfer

Born Norm Radd in the Planet Zenn La, Silver Surfer is called as such because of the craft that he rides on. Possessed with cosmic powers, Radd made a pact with Galactus, his planet's invader, to beome his herald and seek out new worlds together if he would spare Zenn La.

10. The Thing

Comic book lovers know him for the catchphrase "It's clobberin time." The Thing is part of the group called Fantastic Four along with Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman and Human Torch. Flying a spaceship into outer space, cosmic rays forced them to crash land back to earth. The rays transformed them into super human beings and unfortunately for Benjamin Grimm into a monstrous being. The Fantastic Four then decided to use their new found powers to save human beings and push for their betterment.
