Hallspot, a social network and mobile application aimed at connecting college students and businesses, has recently closed with $1 million in its third round of funding.

The funding will no doubt be poured into the company's latest endeavors, which are its new iOS app, to be released within the second week of August, and an Android app, which will be released later in the month.

Sean Thorne, the founder of Hallspot, created the application following his frustration with Twitter's content relevance to him, his campus or his friends. The application allows users to establish connections with business owners, like bars and restaurants within the college community, through an interactive map. The application also allows the bars and restaurants to offer the users promos or coupons for redemption as a means to promote their business.

Currently, the application, which has 3,000 users, is only available at the University of Oregon. There are plans for the app to be made available to selected Pac-12 schools later this year, according to information on its website.
