It's been quite a while since Peter Capaldi was announced as the next "Doctor Who," and the world's various "Who" fanatics have been patiently waiting to see this new doctor in action.

Well, according to showrunner Steven Moffat, not only will we be able to see the next Doctor very soon, but we'll be able to see him on the big screen. According to Moffat, the eighth season premiere will be the length of a feature film, and will air both on BBC and in movie theaters across the globe. The premiere will be written by Moffat, and directed by Ben Wheatley. It is titled "Deep Breath," and the airdate is August 23, 2014.

Stephen Moffat spoke about the premiere in a new announcement:

"Last November the Doctor didn't just conquer the world on television, he did it in the cinemas too. And like the show-off he is, he can't resist another go - one taste of the silver screen is never enough. On August 23rd the new Doctor will begin his new adventures on BBC One and in cinemas all over the world. Movie-land beware - Capaldi is coming to get you!"

However, there are a few other big names jockeying to get a part in the next season of "Doctor Who." One of them is acclaimed director Peter Jackson, who's currently working on the final film in "The Hobbit" trilogy, but is extremely interested in scheduling a little time off to direct a "Doctor Who" episode.

Again, Moffat was quick with a statement:

"He's still incredibly busy on The Hobbit. I've spoken to him face to face and he would like to do one," says Moffat. "He accepts that there's no money and that there's no time and it would have to be when he's available - and I don't think he's even been available enough to answer our emails of late!"

A trailer for the upcoming season can be seen below.
