Word is going around that Ridley Scott may not be back on the director's chair for "Prometheus 2."

According to a report by The Playlist, it's possible that the Sequel to 2012's "Prometheus" will not be directed by Scott, as he's working on two different projects: he has just finished the Biblical epic "Exodus: Gods & Kings," which is set to be released this fall, and he is reportedly set to direct "The Martian," which will start filming later this year.

"The Martian" will star Matt Damon, who will play "a lone astronaut who attempts to survive on the surface of Mars after the rest of his crew accidentally leaves him behind." The movie will be based on a book that "X-Men: Days of Future Past" producer/screenwriter Simon Kinberg recommended to Scott.

Previous reports said that "Prometheus" 2 is slated for a summer 2016 release. If Scott will also be working on "The Martian," he may not be able to do both.

A June 21 article in Scified, however, said that Scott has been looking for film locations in Australia last month. Michael Fassbender has also confirmed the film's legitimacy.

Meanwhile, Guy Pearce recently said in an interview that he wants to reprise his role as Peter Weyland in the Prometheus sequel. He said in an interview with IGN: "I'd love to go back and play that character again, to work for Ridley again, you know, he's great -- really wonderful to work for. So yeah, I'm very curious to see what he will do next with it."

There has been very little information on the plot and the casting. Fox said that it wants Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender to reprise their roles, but no official announcement has been made.

Keep your eyes peeled for more "Prometheus 2" news, which will probably be promoted on the San Diego Comic Con 2014.
