The selfie craze took the world by storm. Everyday people have gotten used to taking photos of themselves. It appears Samsung wants to cater to this market with its Samsung Galaxy K Zoom smartphone. According to reports, the handset may just be the perfect device for people fond of taking self portraits and other related photos.

While smartphones have been around for quite some time, there are no handsets that actually feature a good or real optical zoom. This time, Samsung brings the one advantage real camera has over smartphones to Galaxy K Zoom. The device features a lens that goes to the back of the camera for close up shots.

How up close can the K Zoom go? The lens can magnify objects ten times the usual phone. It is similar to what the Galaxy S4 Zoom can do. The S4 Zoom was the company's initial attempt at producing a optical zoom-equipped handset. Many felt the S4 Zoom failed because of its size. This time it appears Samsung got it right with the Galaxy K Zoom.

The Galaxy K Zoom comes with the following specs:

  • 20.7 MP, 5248 х 3936 pixels, auto/manual focus, 10x optical zoom (24-240mm)
  • optical image stabilization, Xenon & LED flash
  • Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat)
  • Exynos 5260
  • Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex A7 & dual-core 1.7 GHz Cortex A15
  • Mali-T624

The device measures 0.80 inch thick. Despite its optical zoom features, the device is impressively compact. Samsung included multiple lenses that can swing in place only when the user extends the zoom. If not in use, the lenses will be tucked in the sides. The device promises to be an interesting handset for many users. The final verdict should come ones the handset hit stores across the globe.
