Cybercrime fighter Trustwave Holdings Inc recently bought data security provider Application Security Inc for an undisclosed amount yesterday. This was according to a report published by Chicago Business.

Application Security Inc is a database security software firm based in New York. The company is presently a potential candidate for IPO, the report said.

Trustwave is a tech company based in Chicago that was founded in 1995. The firm specializes in protection against hackers, digital threats, and cyberthieves. The company also provides software to help merchants ensure compliance with credit card privacy regulations, the report stated.

One of Trustwave's divisions, SpiderLabs, helps its clients improve their cyber protection. SpiderLabs uses ethical hacking to spot weaknesses in the system. The tool hacks into the company's systems even before real hackers are able to do so. It helps the company respond to security threats after the weakness in the system is spotted, the report explained.

Because of its several acquisitions, Trustwave managed to double its staff to 1,100 workers all over the world, Chicago Business reported.
