The agricultural seed unit of DuPont, DuPont Pioneer, announced last Friday it had aligned with Deere & Co, the farm machinery company to compete against rival Monsanto in providing enhanced 'precision agriculture' analysis with the goal of maximizing crop production.

The programs from these firms would be rolled out next year and it would give farmers advisories as to a number of decisions in the field. These areas would include crop treatment, pest control and planting as well as the best schedule for harvest.

According to Dupont Pioneer executives, customers would be using precision agronomy software to have data move wirelessly through a system set up by Deere, This would provide speedier response times for data-driven recommendations that Pioneer would be rolling out in its group of "Field360" products in 2014.

This agricultural system would utilize computer technology and global positioning systems to ensure the correct application of farm materials, inputs and processes for the highest yield.
