Popular healthcare resource website WebMD announced its acquisition of Avado. The startup made a revolutionary software called "Patient Relationship Management" that would be key to WebMD's wavering business. Similar to the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software of Salesforce.com, PRM would seek to increase the level of engagement between healthcare providers and consumers.

WebMD Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer Bill Pence told tech website Techcrunch, "The timing is right. Traditionally, patients and healthcare providers have lived in separate silos, but with the growing adoption of electronic health records and mobile devices, coupled with the advance in sensor technology, there are now more opportunities than ever before to connect the two and offer personalized, direct-to-consumer services."

Although financial details were not made available, Techcrunch sources who had knowledge of the deal said the acquisition price was around USD20 million to USD30 million.

Avado founders Dave Chase, Bassam Saliba and John Yii would be reporting to Pence. The Avado team would be absorbed by the team at WebMD. However, the Avado team would be keeping its company headquarters in Seattle.
