A job listing for a developer accidentally leaked Apple Inc's plans for its mapping software by mistake.

"As a member of the Transit Routing team, you will work on one of the most anticipated features of Apple Maps. You will design and implement functionality that will be used by millions of users worldwide," part of the job listing read.

The most revealing part was when Apple described the future team member's responsibilities.

"Work with engineers and QA to deliver high quality routes to our customers," the description read, confirming that Apple would be offering public transit directions similar to rival Google's offer.

Google Maps had been the go-to service app for companies including rival Apple. However, Google saw its clients, including Apple, ditching the mappping service due to high prices. In June last year, Google Maps API product manager Thor Mitchell said the company has reduced the online price to USD0.50 oer 1,000 map loads from USD4 per 1,000 map loads.
