India had recently placed an anti-dumping duty at USD787 per tonne on the importation of Paracetamol. This is a widely used medication from China and the said duty would be for a period of five years in a bid to protect the interest of local manufacturers as against cheaper imports.

According to the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) in the country's Revenue Department, "The anti-dumping duty imposed (on Paracetamol) under this notification shall be effective for a period of five years..." The said duty would be at USD787 per tonne. The duty was imposed based on the recommendation of the Dire Duty. Dire Duty had performed the impact analysis of the levy on the overall importations of China.

An anti-dumping duty is a compatible levy allowed under the WTO treaties that helps discourage imports. The duty was first imposed on the bulk drug back in 2001 and was extended in different forms all through September 2013.

Paracetamol is a pharmaceutical active ingredient which display both analgesic and antipyretic properties. It is ueed in a number of OTC drug formulas as powders, granules, injectibles and as tablets.
