The Windsor Star reported that some fastfood patrons and ketchup lovers called the split between McDonald's and Heinz as stupid and silly. McDonald's was putting an end to the 40-year relationship it had with Heinz because former Burger King Chief Executive Bernardo Hees was now at the helm of the condiments company.

Quoted in the report was Leamington Mayor John Paterson. Paterson was quoted saying, "That seems really stupid to me. That's their choice. They can make those decisions." He added that he would not be patronizing the fastfood chain anymore. According to the report, comments online about the split also described the breakup as silly. McDonald's customers who were interviewed by paper, however, said they would not be snubbing McDonald's totally because of its divorce with Heinz.

According to information presented in their website, Heinz said the company sells more than 650 million bottles of ketchup in over 140 countries worldwide every year. It also sells 11 billion single-serve packets around world annually. The company said it has posted yearly sales of over USD 1.5 billion.
