Business by Design to wind down - SAP

According to a report from German business weekly Wirtschafswoche, business software developer SAP is winding down its web-based software for small to medium sized businesses. The company said that it would stop development of its software named 'Business by Design' but current users would be able to still utilize the system,

SAP is one of the largest manufacturers of business management software. It had projected Business by Design would be able to reach 10,000 customers and then generate USD1 billion in revenues for the firm. However, according to the news report, the development costs of the software was at EUR3 billion and with only 765 current customers, the projected revenues to be generated would only reach EUR23 million. 

In comparison, the software and software related services revenue of SAP stands at EUR3.35 billion. 

The news report also said that since the launch of SAP's Business by Design, customers had complaiend about a myriad of technical issues as well as the slow speed of the software.
