U.S. Veteran and Tea Party groups had protested the US government shutdown in Washington last Sunday. The groups had taken down barricades around the World War Two memorial located on the National Mall, said a report from Reuters. This was before marching to the gates of the White House.

Police officers had pushed back against the crowd when the group got too close to the White House fence, reported Reuters. The report continued saying that the move from the police officers, where some of them were even in riot gear, had caused a brief flashpoint of anger in an otherwise peaceful demonstration. As the deadline for the US debt default looms, veterans were in woes as the partial shutdown would soon affect the benefits they are receiving. This included death benefits and disability payments, reported Reuters.

The US shutdown is now on its 13th day and still talks between the US President and the House Republicans had not progressed. The US had been estimated to lose USD160 million each day as National Parks had been closed. More jobs were even cut as government agencies had also closed. Even crude oil trading decreased in Asian markets as the US shutdown continues and the debt default by the biggest economy in the world draws near.
