The new F-35 jet fighter helmets which would be manufactured by Elbit Systems of Israel and its US Partner Rockwell Collins have high-tech features. The helmet is known as the Helmet Mounted Display System (HMDS). It would incorporate data from the F-35 fighter's cameras and the helmet visor's sensors. With this design, a pilot would be able to see past the wings and floor of the fighter plane.

In addition, the HMDS would also have an improved night vision camera and new liquid crystal displays. It would also have automated alignment features and better software. It would be introduced to the F-35 fleet in 2016.  The helmet is part of the F-35 fighter jet program, dubbed as most expensive military program in US history, amounting to USD 395.7 billion.

In March, Elbit Systems posted 2012 fourth quarter revenues of USD 843.9 million. This was an increase from the USD 841.9 million in the same period the year before. Its gross profits for the quarter also improved to USD 239 million from USD 141.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2011.
