Sweden-based software company Cision AB said it had been conducting an investigation on a published erroneous press release. The report stated that Samsung Electronics Co would be purchasing Fingerprint Cards, a Swedish technology firm, for USD 650 million.

Cision Director of Customer Operations Helen Rigamonti said a contact at Fingerprint Cards had given them the release. However, this was denied by Fingerprint Cards. The biometric security solutions firm said it would report the release to the police and to the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority.

Rigamonti said, "We are looking into our procedures, but we followed all of our security procedures and we can't exactly tell you what happened as of now."

After the release was made public, Fingerprint Cards' shares increased by 51% in Stockholm. Samsung Spokeswoman Chenny Kim sent a text message to Bloomberg saying the news was not true.

Cision also issued a statement about the matter that read, "The press release was incorrect. Cision apologizes to Fingerprint Cards AB and other stakeholders for this error."
