Etihad Airways announced its revenues in the third quarter of 2013 increased by 11% year on year. The Abu Dhabi based airline earned USD1.4 billion because of higher returns coming from its equity investors.

In a statement, the carrier said the revenue from the airline business it owns equity stakes in jumped by 36% to USD247 million. The equity investments in Etihad came from airberlin, Aer Lingus, Air Seychelles as well as Virgin Australia. It also completed an investment in the rebranded Air Serbia. Another investment, a 24% shareholding in Jet Airways of India, is under review by regulatory authorities.

Etihad, in its announcement, further said the passenger numbers in the quarter increased by 11%, or 3.06 million passengers. Network-wide passengers on the other hand grew by 81% while cargo revenues increased by 39% to USD244 million.

The announcement did not include figures as to the airlines' quarterly profits for the period.
