US President Barack Obama said he expects that there would be no extreme measures to be undertaken in order for the country to comply with its debt obligations. He believes the US Congress would raise the debt ceiling before its deadline on October 17.

In an interview with the Associated Press released last Saturday, Obama was quoted as saying, "I don't expect to get there. There were at least some quotes yesterday that (House of Representatives) Speaker (John) Boehner is willing to make sure that we don't default."

He added, "And I'm pretty willing to bet that there are enough votes int he House of Representatives right now to make sure that the United States doesn't end up being a deadbeat."

Previously, the President said he's willing to negotiate amendments to his centerpiece healthcare law. He also said he would be finding ways to reduce spending but reiterated he would not be open for any discussion with Congress until and unless government is reopened and a new debt ceiling has been passed by the House of Representatives.
