Adobe Systems, Inc. confirmed on its website that a cyberattack had stolen private data of 2.9 million of its customers. The company added that the hackers had accessed secured customer passwords and payment card numbers. However, Adobe believed that the debit and credit data were not removed by the hackers. Adobe chief security officer Brad Arkin said, "We deeply regret that this incident occurred. Based on our findings to date, we are not aware of any specific increased risk to customers as a result of this incident."

However, senior adviser Chester Wisniewski at Internet security company Sophos said the breach was akin to a Microsoft security breach. "Billions of computers around the world use Adobe software, so if hackers manage to embed malicious code in official-looking software updates they could potentially take control of millions of machines," Wisniewski told BBC.

In 2012, Adobe reported revenues of USD4.40 billion and owns USD9.97 billion in assets and USD6.66 billion in equity.
